Unexpected Weight Gain When You Did Everything Right!

𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐭...

I had quite the WTF moment when I stepped off the bathroom scale defeated yesterday. Four letter words came spilling out of my mouth in disbelief . I vowed to ditch that stupid thing for the rest of the month...but I can't promise I won't take a peek next Monday in anticipation that I will somehow start my comeback.

𝐈𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐞... 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐈'𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐭 8 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨.

Are you thinking "Holy Failure" too!?

I let these feelings defeat me for about 30 seconds, before recognizing the reality of everything I know as a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐉𝐢𝐥𝐥??

1) Trust the process

2) There is a logical reason

3) Screw the scale, how do you feel?

Seriously what pissed me off in the moment was....

- I did every workout and lifted heavier than I had in teaching the recorded classes

- I made a plan for nutrition and stuck to it 90%

- I did a fashion show wearing all size 4s this week and smalls/extra smalls and felt fantastic.

- My six pack is making a comeback

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐦 𝐈 10 𝐩𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 8 𝐬𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 6 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐣𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲?

I needed a distraction, so I hopped in my November Challenge Facebook Group for some good news and inspiration....and there it was...one of my clients had also gained weight this week.

"Thought I was doing well, but the scale said otherwise! Monitoring my calorie intake a lot closer this week"

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞. 𝐈𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐮𝐩 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭. 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬.

I addressed my group and let those who gained and those who will inevitably gain weight at some point in their journey know that they weren't alone and that they hadn't failed....in fact, they had done quite the opposite. (I needed this reminder too)

𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧?

Yes! So because my clients and I worked hard last week, lifting heavy, kickboxing and killing it in HIIT workouts, we experienced Water Retention.

Even though our work created a good kind of stress on the body, the body is still inclined to release cortisol, and retain water in order to repair muscle fibers and relieve soreness.
